Victorian dress in greenery

See Revolution House decorated for a 17th Century Christmas with greenery and a kissing bough, and colourful flower arrangements provided by our volunteers, Maria Hodgson, Juliet Hall and Julie Barnsdall, with members of the Dronfield Floral Art Club.

Don’t miss the first floor displays based on clothing, including a Victorian dress made from fir and flower arrangements in a top hat and work shoes! There are displays of clothing from times gone by including George Stephenson’s waistcoat.

The House takes its name from the Revolution of 1688. Three hundred years ago this cottage was an alehouse - the 'Cock and Pynot' (pynot is a dialect word for magpie) - and it was here that three local noblemen - the Earl of Devonshire (from nearby Chatsworth), the Earl of Danby and Mr John D'Arcy, met to begin planning their part in events which led to the overthrow of King James II in favour of William and Mary of Orange.

Watch a video which tells the story of the Revolution.
