About

Chesterfield 1940s Market is moving to Spring in 2024 and hoping for better weather in April!

Come along and shop in style at the Chesterfield 1940s Market!

Local people and visitors to Chesterfield can enjoy themselves during the Easter holidays at the annual 1940s market on its new date in April.

Visitors can enjoy 40s music, entertainment, exhibits and meet the stall holders in period dress.

Kalamazoo dance band will once again be back by popular demand performing throughout the day in New Square. Be sure to bring your dancing shoes and join in the fun!

The weekly flea market will take place in the market place with traders in 1940s costume. There will be a competition for the best dressed stall and visitors are encouraged to get into the 40s spirit by dressing in period costumes.

Entertainment includes a variety of 1940s singers all around the town centre as well as an escapologist. There will also be a display of classic cars, a vintage fire engine and, star of the show, a full-size replica spitfire.

Chesterfield Museum and Up An At Em History will also be attending in 1940s costume and exploring life on the Home Front, Food Rationing and how the Land Girls kept Britain fed. Hands on activities for children include making "mock" foods, have-a-go milking, seed planting, handling objects and crafts.

There will be lots to see and do for all the family.

Visitors are encouraged to use public transport to attend the event but there is also lots of parking available in Chesterfield. Full details of both council owned and private car parks can be found here.

Free coach parking spaces are available for groups or organisations visiting the event when pre-booked, please contact tourism@chesterfield.gov.uk to reserve your space.
