About
A short walk around Brampton highlighting the sites of the long-gone industries.
So many innovative industries grew up powered by water wheels along the Hipper through Brampton from 1700 and earlier. You need imagination and someone to show you where they all were.
We all know about the many potteries and Robinsons, but what about the bleachworks, red lead works, the coal and iron pits, chemical works, corn mill, candlewick, iron foundries, brass works, bobbin mill, go-kart works - and even the Beaver Hat factory! Do you know where the five mill ponds where?
There are two listed mill buildings to ponder. See the tram shed that fed the line running up to the Terminus, and see the tracks of the old “Brampton Branch” railway line ran along serving these industries from 1870 until its demise.
Simply bring your imagination, and we’ll tell you the history as we amble the route
