The coal mines were a way of life in times past but coal mining was a dangerous job. Markham Colliery suffered three disasters during its working life and a new walk for 2019 explores Markham Vale’s industrial past and tells the story of the men killed in the mining disasters.
Only offered once before in 2016, A Wing and a Prayer leads you through peaceful countryside, opens up fantastic views and passes historic buildings along its 11 mile route.
Renishaw Hall Gardens opens again for walkers in the company of the Head Gardener. Explore parks, trails and Spital Cemetery all on one new walk which sets out from Eastwood Park in Hasland.
Go West! to explore the countryside to the west of Chesterfield, visit Holymoorside and Somersall Park, and discover a hidden valley.
Dogs invite their humans along for an evening stroll around Scarcliffe and Bolsover. Some walks also welcome dogs but please keep your dog on a lead so that humans and dogs can enjoy the walk.
Try one of our new walks on the sixth day of the Festival, or take a second chance to book onto walks that have booked up quickly in the past.
