Part of the Chesterfield Canal Walking Festival

Come and join Chesterfield Borough Council’s Staveley Health Walkers for a sociable stroll around the local area. We will start at Staveley Hall for a stroll down to the Canal basin, then take the Cuckoo and Trans Pennine Trails to walk back up into Staveley, returning to Staveley Hall for refreshments and chat in the café. Suitable for those who are new to walking, would like to start to be more active or would just like some fresh air in good company. Some slopes and a few steps.

Road Directions

From North/South Leave M1 motorway at junction 30 and take A616 (signposted Chesterfield and Worksop). At roundabout take 4th exit (A619, signposted Chesterfield). Follow road for approx 3 miles and at roundabout in Staveley take 1st exit into Staveley Hall Drive. Follow road to Hall.

From East Follow A617 to M1 motorway. At roundabout take 4th exit (M1 North). Leave M1 motorway at junction 30 and follow route from North/South.

From West Follow A619 into Chesterfield. At traffic controlled roundabout (Matalan) select middle lane and take 3rd exit. At traffic lights keep left and go straight on. Select right hand lane and at roundabout take 3rd exit. At next roundabout (traffic light controlled) select left lane and take 2nd exit (A617). Follow road for approx 4 miles and, at roundabout take 1st exit (M1 North). Leave M1 motorway at junction 30 and follow route from North/South.

Chesterfield CanalChesterfield Canal, ChesterfieldChesterfield Canal was surveyed by James Brindley and opened in 1777. The collapse of the Norwood Tunnel cut off the section of the Canal from Chesterfied but the Trust is working hard to restore this section. Narrowboat cruises are available.
