Walkers crossing a field

About

Unfortunately this event has been cancelled by the walk leaders.

A walk along rolling farmland and valleys to the west of our town.

We begin with a short descent past a small lake to Holme Brook then begin a long steady climb to Cutthorpe passing Cutthorpe Hall on the way.

We proceed over farmland to cross a valley and stream via a footbridge, at the quaintly named Jumble Hole, to reach Newgate a tiny hamlet on one of the country roads leading to the eastern moors.

Turning to head eastwards, the route then proceeds to Grange Hill and Bluster Castle. Turning south we descend to the Linacre valley before climbing once more to Wigley, another of the many tiny hamlets that dot the area.

From here we proceed to Frith Hall and an excellent example of a partly restored Cruck Barn. Turning north we now make our way to the lower end of the Linacre valley before returning to Holmebrook Valley Park using paths alongside Holme Brook.

Please bring a packed lunch.

Walk grading - moderate (walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness). Note: the pace will be moderate, averaging over 2 miles an hour to include stops.
