Eat, Drink and be Merry - Christmas at Renishaw Hall

Tour historic Renishaw Hall, enjoy warming festive food and winter garden walks this Christmas.

Owner of Renishaw Hall & Gardens, Alexandra Sitwell, invites visitors to enjoy a festive, ‘foodie’ tour of the Hall and grounds this Christmas; as this historic site is decorated under the theme of ‘Eat, Drink and be Merry’.

From Thursday 28th November to Sunday 1st December and Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th December, the historic Hall and award winning gardens at Renishaw will be open to take visitors on a fascinating journey - across the traditions and stories of how Christmas has been celebrated through food, drink and entertainment.

Special ‘Eat Drink and be Merry’ Hall tours take place at 1pm and 2:30pm daily during the Christmas opening (booking recommended) where guests will enjoy exploring from room to room the festive facts about how Christmas has been celebrated for almost 400 year at Renishaw Hall; including:

- The Old Kitchen with its glowing copper kettles and pans – featuring Victorian local recipes, kitchenalia and ‘below stairs’ stories of staff members who worked at Renishaw over centuries past

- A canter through four centuries of fads and fashion in drinking history in the Smoke Room – from the early days of Renishaw’s own brewhouse to an award winning 21st century estate vineyard

- In the Library - learn about the history of the Christmas Cracker

- Enjoy the warmth of the Hall’s roaring log fires, and look out for the special Yule Log and wood theme in the Billiard Room

- Meet three ‘Lady Sitwells’ in the impressive Ballroom where many festive balls and family celebrations have been held

- In Renishaw’s elegant Dining Room, the table will be set with all its fine glass and silverware ready for a splendid Christmas lunch

Each room within the Renishaw Hall tour will be decorated to show different aspects of ‘Eat, Drink and be Merry’ at Christmas time.

Before or following Hall tours, visitors can enjoy the winter vistas offered by Renishaw Hall’s superb gardens - with views across the Estate and areas of the gardens not seen during the main season – making Christmas a very special time to visit the gardens at Renishaw.

In the Café at Renishaw Hall, there will be a sumptuous, winter menu of homemade dishes being served daily.

Allow time to choose gifts to take home from the Visitor Centre including local produce, plant sales, memorabilia and books on the history of Renishaw Hall & Gardens, plus a range of the award- winning still and sparkling wines; all making superb items for family and friends this Christmas.

Tours take place at 1pm and 2:30pm each day between 28th November and 1st December and 5th to 8th December.

For Christmas at The Café at Renishaw Hall: book ahead for Christmas lunch or special afternoon teas. There is a 10% discount special offer on afternoon teas during the remainder of November, please quote ‘Xmas10’
