Join one of the Derbyshire Countryside Service rangers to explore Ashover’s heathland and surrounding countryside.  

Enjoy the views and learn a little about how we manage these rare and important habitats. Designated as a local nature reserve, you’ll discover what makes this such a special place for both people and wildlife.

Road Directions

From North/South leave M1 motorway at junction 29 and take A617 to Chesterfield (approx 4 miles). At roundabout (traffic light controlled) select left lane and take 3rd exit. At next roundabout select left lane and take 1st exit (continuous lane). At traffic lights select middle lane and go straight on. At traffic light controlled roundabout (Matalan) select left lane and take 2nd exit (A619). Follow road for approx 1½ miles and, at Morrison's roundabout select left lane and take 1st exit (Walton Road). At mini roundabout go straight on and follow road to top of hill. At traffic lights, select right lane and turn right (A632, Matlock Road). Follow road for approx 5 miles, entering Kelstedge. Take left turn before Kelstedge Inn, (B6036, signposted Ashover). Follow road for approx ½ mile and turn left onto Narrowleys Lane the right onto Moor Road. Finally, turn right onto Church Street and continue onto Milken Lane, then take a right again and you will be at the parish hall. 

From East follow A617 to Chesterfield, then follow route from North/South.

From West follow A619 to Chesterfield and, at Morrison's roundabout, take 3rd exit (Walton Road). Then follow route from North/South.
