Part of the Chesterfield Area Walking Festival

Second stage of the Chesterfield Round Walk. Visit the ‘Pig of Lead’ then descend to the Hipper Valley, passing through hamlets and villages, Linacre reservoir, the valley of Barlow Brook and around Monk Wood. Clear footpaths and tracks across mainly arable farmland.

Road Directions

From North/South Leave M1 at Junction 29 and take A617 to Chesterfield (approx 4 miles). At traffic light controlled roundabout select left lane and take the 3rd exit. Keep in left lane and at next roundabout take first exit signposted Chatsworth (continuous lane). At traffic lights select left lane and go straight on. Stay in left lane and at next roundabout take 1st exit (Boythorpe Road). Follow road up hill to roundabout, select right lane and take 3rd exit (Whitecotes Lane). Follow road to traffic lights, select left lane and go straight on (A632 Matlock Road). Follow road for approx. 2¼ miles and turn right onto B5057 (signposted Darley Dale). The Peak Edge Hotel is 300 yards on the left.

From East Follow A617 to junction with M1. Select left lane and take 3rd exit (A617 to Chesterfield), then follow route from North/South.

From West Follow A619 to Chesterfield. Pass Brookfield School and, at traffic lights select left lane and go straight on (A619). At Morrison’s roundabout, take 3rd exit (Walton Road). Follow road to traffic lights at top of hill. Select right lane and turn right (A632 Matlock Road). Follow road for approx. 2¼ miles and turn right onto B5057 (signposted Darley Dale). The Peak Edge Hotel is 300 yards on the left.
