Norbriggs Flash Nature Reserve
Nature Reserve, free entry
Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre
Norbriggs Flash was once farmland with grazing pastures and growing crops but, today it offers grassland, hedgerow, wetland, woodland and scrub as well as arable farmland.
The site supports a variety of wildlife including locally and nationally important species such as the emperor dragonfly, grasshopper warbler, common water crowfoot, grass snake and common snipe.
The land is managed using traditional farming methods that encourage the wildlife to flourish, rather than competing with it. The Reserve sits in a river corridor which links to other important areas for wildlife including Netherthorpe Flash and Pools Brook Country Park.
Visitors are welcome and, with its link to the Cuckoo Way (the Chesterfield Canal towpath), plus footpaths into the surrounding countryside, it's a great place to start a walk.
