Chesterfield Visitor Information Centre
Take a walk on the wildside through this Special Landscape Area. The walk follows the routes of old lanes and trackways which have emerged in a landscape traditionally used for farming, timber and small wood productes, mining and industry. Water has powered grist mills (for grinding corn) from the Domesday survey of 1086 to the scythe and sickle production of the 15th to 19th Century.
Short cuts allow for a 45 minute walk around Ridgeway (only suitable during the summer months and in dry weather) and a 2 mile walk around the Ford Circuit (follow the sleeping dormouse signposts).
Waymarked by grist mill symbol
