This ancient custom is only found in Derbyshire. A picture is created using only natural materials. One well is dressed at Rowthorne but another village nearby shares the same well dressing dates – Ault Hucknall. These wells have been dressed for more than 30 years.
Refreshments available at Ault Hucknall Church and at Young Vanish Inn at Glapwell.
Rowthorne – near Pear Tree Barn on Rowthorne Lane (S44 5QQ)
Ault Hucknall - outside St John the Baptist Church, under the ancient yew tree in the Churchyard (S44 5QH)

Leave M1 at junction 29 and take A617 towards Mansfield. Follow road for approx 2 miles and turn right opposite Young Vanish Pub into Rowthorne Lane. Follow road for approx ½ mile into Rowthorne Village.
Follow A617 through Mansfield (follow signs for Chesterfield). At traffic lights (Rutland Arms), go straight on. At all following traffic lights go straight on. At roundabout after short stretch of dual carriageway, take 2nd exit (A617). Follow road for approx 1½ miles (becomes single carriageway) to Glapwell and turn left just before Yough Vanish Pub into Rowthorne Lane. Follow road for approx ½ mile into Rowthorne Village.
Follow A619 to Chesterfield. At traffic light controlled roundabout (Lidl on left) select middle lane and take 3rd exit. Keep to left lane and, at traffic lights go straight on. When carriageway divides select right hand lane and, at roundabout take 3rd exit. At next roundabout (traffic light controlled) select left lane and take 2nd exit (A617). In approx 4 miles reach roundabout. Select left lane and take 3rd exit (A617 towards Mansfield), then follow route from North/South.
