Winding Wheel

The Winding Wheel opened in 1923 as the Picture House and, in the late 30s it was bought by the Odeon Cinema chain. As well as a cinema, the building housed a ballroom and a restaurant. It closed in 1981 but was bought by Chesterfield Borough Council, restored and refurbished, opening again in the late 80s as a conference and entertainment venue. Recently given Grade II listed building status, the Winding Wheel is one of 155 listed in cinemas in the country.
Today, the Winding Wheel is the venue for concerts, lectures, dances and conferences, and has 3 rooms available for hire for private functions. One of these, the Ballroom, has a beautiful stained glass dome over the dance floor.
The Winding Wheel has hosted West End touring shows, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and major tribute acts including Livewire (the AC/DC Show).
