Brimington  Brimington

Three miles north-east of Chesterfield, on the road to Worksop, Brimington is described in the Domesday Book as a berewick of the Royal Manor of Newbold. It has several churches but the Parish Church of St Michael was built in 1846.

One of Brimington's most impressive buildings is Ringwood Hall, which has stood from at least 1809. It was owned by George Hodgkinson Barrow and, later, his brother Richard who formed the Staveley Coal and Iron Company just one year before his death. He also invited Charles Markham to be the Managing Director and it was his son, Charles Paxton Markham, who not only made the Company one of the biggest concerns in the country, but also bought Ringwood Hall. On Sunday afternoons he would open the grounds so that his workmen and their families could have a day out and enjoy themselves. The Hall is Grade II listed and is now a hotel.
