Barlow Well Dressing at BarlowBarlow Well Dressing at Barlow

An ancient custom only found in Derbyshire. The villagers claim that well dressing began in Barlow in Elizabethan times. Although this can't be confirmed, we do know that Barlow well dressers use whole flower heads, which cover the clay more quickly, rather than individual petals. When you look at the size of their well dressings, this is perfectly understandable!
